"Drug-driving is just mad - and the consequences can be very serious" - judge

A man was convicted of drug-driving on the M7 near Kill. Patrick McAndrew (36) of John Sweeney Park in Carlow town appeared at Naas District Court on the charge of driving under the influence of of an intoxicant. Gardai said they detected a strong smell of cannabis when they stopped a car in which McAndrew was driving at Castlewarden, Kill in February last year. Judge Desmond Zaidan said: "Drug-driving is just mad - and the consequences can be very serious." The court was told that McAndrew had a number of previous convictions for drugs offences.
