Traffic lights go red too fast in Maynooth town centre - Councillor

The Council has been asked to check if the timing of the traffic lights in Maynooth town centre can be changed. Cllr Teresa Murray wants to give motorists more time to turn onto Main Street from Rathcoffey Road? The Council said the traffic signals in Maynooth town centre are linked using a SCOOT system. This computerised system balances the flows and delays at all junctions in the town centre. The timing of the green and red lights is based on traffic flows on other approaches to the junction and the number of pedestrians crossing at the location. A spokesman added: "The junction is continuously monitored by staff in the Traffic Management Section and the approach from Bond Bridge will be examined to determine if changes are possible."
