Protest at historical Kildare site due to begin shortly

Magee Barracks
Following the announcement last week that the Department of Defence plans to sell Magee Barracks, a group of locals will protest at the site today. The site was originally scheduled to be given back to the Kildare County Council in 2009, but the council opted against taking ownership of the land and it has become very derelict in the time since. Locals have become concerned over the number of anti-social incidents that have taken place at the barracks in recent times, with a massive fire last month resulting in a call out for five fire service units. Locals will begin their protest at 1pm today, in a bid to resolve the many issues with the site.
