Failure to hand over social housing in Maynooth is 'depressing' according to local councellor
17 Oct 2015
Labour councellor John Mc Ginley has hit out at the lack of houses submitted by new housing estates in the town is 'depressing'. A number of houses were due to be transferred to the council from new housing estates in the town, but they have since fallen well short on the initial numbers that were promised. The estates involved are Moyglare Hall, Newtown Hall, Griffin Rath, Castlepark and Hayfield. Under the agreement it was stated that Newtown Hall would transfer 19 social houses and 29 affordable houses to the council, but have only transferred one social house and no affordable houses. Moyglare Hall has been the most compliant estate, giving the council 17 of the 42 promised social houses and also transferring 41 of the 63 affordable houses they had promised. Cllr Mc Ginley said: "The housing provision was the biggest issue countrywide at present that it was unforgivable that the Council did not ensure that it got the maximum number of houses provided for by Law. Stating “negotiations are still underway” is not good enough as Castlepark and Griffin Rath have been completed andNewtown Hall and Moyglare Hall are close to completion."
