Anybody caught with a lighted firework this Halloween - could be jailed for five years

Gardai has issued a warning about the penalties for anybody caught with fireworks this Halloween. Senior officers and the Department of Justice have launched a joint campaign to caution people about the hefty fines and lengthy prison sentences attached to such offences. A Garda spokesman said: "Fireworks are not only dangerous - there are severe criminal penalties that apply." "Igniting an illegal firework in any place carries a penalty of up to €10,000 or five years in prison. . "Throwing an ignited firework at a person or property carries a penalty of €10,000 or five years in prison." "Possession of illegal fireworks with intent to sell or supply carries a penalty of up to €10,000 or five years in prison."
