HIV testing will be available in Dublin bars

€150,000 has been set aside to launch a free rapid HIV testing service which will offer testing in bars, workplaces and other hubs in Dublin.

The Gay & Lesbian Equality Network will run a one year pilot programme which will be Dublin's first rapid testing service. It will offer on-site testing and a new testing centre will also be established. The funding will also support similar services that are already in operation in Cork and Limerick.
The centres will be founded as part of Ireland’s first National Sexual Health Strategy and Action Plan, which aims to raise awareness of sexual health and stem the rising incidence of sexually transmitted infections.
This is the first time that a nationally co-ordinated approach has been developed to improve the sexual health and wellbeing. The strategy will run from 2015-2020.
