There's a new limit to your 'contactless' card payments from today onwards

A new cap on how much you can spend by using the contactless payment option on your debit card will come into force today. Up until now the maximum amount you could spend was €15, but that has been increased to €30 from today onwards. Lorraine Peters, Head of Current Accounts at Permanent TSB, said that customers have really taken to the new contactless payment service. “Customers of all the banks are really taking to contactless payments. We have seen 2 million contactless transactions on cards since we introduced the facility six months ago and we believe that this number will increase significantly now that the amount you can pay for by this method is increasing.”
