Proposals are in place to slash the amount of time allocated to teach children about their religion. Parents, teachers and members of the public are being encouraged to air their views on how religion is taught in primary schools. A public consultation on the issue has been launched by the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment. Under the plans being proposed a new beliefs and ethics class could be introduced to coincide with traditional religion classes. The reforms are aimed at ensuring all children have the opportunity to learn about different beliefs and cultures.
