Shock in Co Kildare town that site earmarked for social housing is flood risk
12 Nov 2015
A site owned by Kildare County Council earmarked to provide over 40 social houses in a Co Kildare town is now deemed a flood risk stalling construction plans. Shock is being expressed in Monasterevin following surprise revelations that the Cowpasture site, due to be zoned for residential, is at risk of flooding. The waiting list for social housing is now at 530 in Monasterevin spurring concern. Speaking to KildareNow, Fianna Fail Cllr Martin Miley Junior, feels that the flood risk is 'extremely low.' Cllr Miley is concerned that there is a lack of available houses to purchase in South Kildare to alleviate the housing crisis. He is urging Kildare County Council to engage with NAMA and purchase an additional site. Kildare County Council currently has €3.4billion to develop social housing in the county up until 2020.
