Major reforms announced by Minister for Health today

The Health Minister Leo Varadkar will announce a major package of reforms on patient safety today. It will include a new advocacy service to provide support and advice to users of the health service. The proposed National Patient Advocacy Service will be independent of the HSE, but funded by the State. The measures being announced today were developed in response to high-profile cases in recent years, including the death of Savita Halappanavar and last year's report on baby deaths at Portlaoise.
