Def Forces Med Nov 2015
The Irish Army on the Le Samuel Beckett vessel rescued small children as part of two search and rescue operations this morning. At 4.10 am Irish time, personnel located an un-seaworthy craft carrying 108 people 60 kilometres north east of Tripoli. Troops used rigid hull inflatable boats to transfer 108 people to the MV Bourbon Argos ship waiting nearby. The Le Samuel Beckett later located another vessel and brought 119 persons on board from a rubber craft. The Irish Navy vessel has directly rescued almost 900 people since its deployment at the end of September. The LE Eithne and LE Niamh have meanwhile rescued 7,397 people during their respective missions. With a crew of 59 sailors, the Le Samuel Beckett is the third naval vessel to be deployed to the area.
