Almost 900 claims for compensation made by Gardai to the state

The State is set to face almost 900 claims for compensation from Gardai who received injuries during the line of duty in the first 10 months of this year. It was confirmed by the Department of Justice that information had been acquired on 317 cases while they were awaiting further details from another 550 cases. “The injury being claimed for must not be minor in nature, and confirmation must be received from the Garda Commissioner that the incident occurred on duty and that it was not caused as the result of willful default or negligence on the member’s part," said Justice Minister Frances Fitzgerald.
