Gardai and Revenue join forces in Louth landing significant seizure


In a joint intelligence-led operation An Garda Síochána and Customs enforcement officers seized in excess of 4,000 bottles of counterfeit vodka, labels and false UK tax stamps when a large scale, illegal vodka bottle-labelling and stamping plant was uncovered in Co Louth on Tuesday night last.

The operation was carried out by Gardaí from Louth Division and officers from Revenue's Customs service, supported by Gardaí from the Emergency Response Unit and Garda Regional Support Unit.

Seven vehicles (three cars and four trucks) and €7000 in cash were also seized. The vehicles were seized by Revenue officers for mineral oil tax offences.

The discovery was made in the course of a joint agency operation focused on combating organised criminality in the Louth area. Seven individuals (four Northern Ireland residents & three Republic of Ireland residents) who were found at the scene were detained and questioned by Gardaí. There were no arrests and the investigations are ongoing.
