Two thieves seen fleeing house in Athy as couple arrive home
7 Dec 2015
A couple from the Maganey area of Athy almost walked in on two house invaders who had broken into their house in search of valuables to steal. The pair arrived at the house at about 4.30pm on Saturday evening to see two men fleeing through the front garden after they had broken into the home and got their hands on a quantity of electrical merchandise. Among some of the items stolen were a Playstation, an IPad Air, a ladies gold watch and a silver Fuji digital camera. Both men took off running down the countryside road and there is no indication as to whether or not they had a getaway vehicle waiting for them in the area. The man and woman who own the house were unharmed in the burglary. Descriptions of the two men are limited, but Gardai said that they were of 'big build' and they are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. Sgt Seamus Rothwell from the Athy Garda Station urged people to be careful with what they have on show inside their homes through windows at this time of year as it has historically been a time where the numbers of house burglaries have risen. People should refrain from leaving items such as laptops, Ipads, handbags and wallets on view through windows, while he also said that people should be careful about leaving presents visible under Christmas trees as it may attract unwelcome attention from intruders.
