A woman claimed in Naas District Court that her husband was caught speeding while driving her car - but he never told her. The defendant also asked Judge Desmond Zaidan to be as lenient as possible given that it is almost Christmas, she has five children and her husband is not working. She said she would have readily paid the €80 fine if her husband had told her that he was caught speeding at 119 kmph in a 100 kmph zone. Judge Desmond Zaidan jokingly asked the defendant: "Are you going to divorce your husband now?!" However the judge then decided to strike out the case and not impose any fine.
