Rathangan Scouts is to receive a special Light of Peace direct from the site of Jesus' stable in Bethlehem. Two fellow scouts from Israel and Palestine will take a light from the West Bank and it will travel on a journey of peace across the world. Rathangan will be one of the communities in Ireland which is visited by the symbolic light. The light comes from the Grotto oil lamps in Bethlehem which have been burning continuously for over 1,000 years. The Light is intended as a symbol of hope and a light of peace in people's lives at this time of the year. Rathangan Scouts are holding a special evening of song and dance supported by the Rathangan and Newbridge choirs on December 20th at 7pm. Each year the light is passed on to over 30 European countries and, for the past decade, to the United States, Canada and Mexico as well.
