Newbridge and Prosperous to feature in new Christy Moore film

Parts of Co Kildare such as Newbridge and Prosperous will feature heavily in a film about legendary local singer Christy Moore. Christy Moore: Journey is a powerful and personal film shot over a five-month period on the road with the legendary performer. For the past 50 years Moore (70) has sung about issues that have deeply affected him and the film will see him bring these songs to the locations that inspired them. The songs guide viewers through life in London in the sixties through to the issues and events that have shocked and shaped us in more recent times. The film will be broadcast across two one hour episodes on RTE One on Sunday 10 and Monday 11 April at 9.30pm. After being born in Newbridge in the 1940s, he attended Newbridge College in the town. He maintained his links with his native county when he recorded his second album in Prosperous and named it after the village. The house featured on the front cover of the album is owned by Dr Andrew Rynne, surgeon and medical practitioner and founder of Clane General Hospital. In 2007, Moore was named as Ireland's greatest living musician in RTÉ's People of the Year Awards. Also this month, Christy will begin a series of Irish dates, staring on April 13 and 14 in Vicar Street, Dublin with more Vicar Street dates on April 28 and 29. He will then play the Bord Gais Energy Theatre on May 6 and 7 and in September he will be joined on the road by Declan Sinnot and Jim Higgins at the Millenium Forum on September 2 and 3. He will also play City Hotel Armagh on September 14, Slieve Donard Resort Newcastle on September 15 and the Waterfront Hall on September 17 and 18.
