Local councellor asking Kildare Co Council to provide park and ride facility to alleviate Naas traffic

Kildare County Council are being asked to look into providing a Park and Ride facility at the former Donnelly Mirrors site in Naas to alleviate traffic congestion in the town and encourage more N7 commuters to take public transport.
Sinn Féin Councillor Sorcha O'Neill for the Naas area described her daily commute; "Last week a cyclist that left Naas at the same as me, passed me by in my car and arrived a Citywest before me. There wasn't a crash, just sheer volume of traffic on the road. We are at pre Celtic Tiger volumes of traffic on roads and the Newlands Cross fly over hasn't solved the problem. Something needs to be done to address the issue".
The same Councillor also proposed a free bike scheme some time ago to encourage more people towards cycling in the town. KCC rejected the proposal citing that the area did not have the critical mass to make the scheme viable. Cllr O'Neill hopes that by providing park and ride, bus stops and bike facilities at the former Donnelly Mirror site, it will go a long way to ease both town congestion in Naas and go some way to addressing the N7 volumes. A decision will be made at the next Naas Municipal meeting on 19th April.
