You're no longer going to have any trouble updating your facebook status or posting photos to Instagram in Athy as the south Kildare town expect to roll out a free WiFi service to people in the next number of weeks. The service, which is funded by the payments of the Local Property Tax in the area, will be available in the town centre and the coverage spans from the parish church to the Carlow Road and areas along the Barrow. According to local Fianna Fáil Cllr Martin Miley Jnr, the aim of the project is to help give something back to the locals while also attracting tourism to the area. "It's a massive progressive step for the town. It shows vision because nowadays you see everyone walking down the street with iPhones and Smartphones. When tourists come to Athy they will be able to access the service and it also gives something back to the local community too," said Cllr Miley. He also revealed that it will be a very secure connection that prevents users from going on certain sites that have been deemed as unsuitable by the town council. Cllr Miley told KildareNow that he expects the service to go live in the next six to eight weeks.
