Member of Kildare's famous Leinster-winning team of 60 years ago passes away

The death has occurred of a member of the 1956 Kildare team which were crowned Senior Football Champions in Leinster. It was only the third time the Lilywhites won the provincial title in the past 60 years. Peter Mooney of Maddenstown Terrace in the Curragh ran the Peter Mooney & Co Garage in Newbridge for many years. Peter died peacefully in his 92nd year at The Curragh Lodge Nursing Home on Sunday surrounded by his loving family. He is deeply regretted by his best friend and loving wife Breeda, sisters Jenny, Marie and Marcella, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and large circle of friends. His remains will repose at his residence today from 1pm to 4pm (close friends and neighbours only please). Removal this evening at 6.30pm to arrive at St. Brigid's Church, Curragh Camp for 7pm, Funeral Mass takes place on Wednesday morning at 11am and burial afterwards in Laraghbryan Cemetery, Kilcock Road, Maynooth. Family flowers only please. Donations, if desired, to the Alzheimer's Society (Donation box in Church).
