The number of motorists being issued penalty points for a failure to display a valid NCT certificate rocketed by 150% last year as Gardaí clamp down on motoring offences across the country. According to the Central Statistics Office, there was a total of 249,599 penalty points issued in 2015, a rise of 7% from the year previous. Three quarters of the points issued were in relation to speeding, but there were a total of 7,408 points issued to drivers who failed to display valid NCT certificates. Gardaí in Kildare have had an extremely prominent presence on roads all over the county in the last week as they continue their Christmas campaign around the county. A number of cars have been seized for a variety of offences that included no tax, no NCT, no insurance and driving over the legal alcohol consumption limit. https://twitter.com/GardaTraffic/status/808779577812254724
