Council to prioritise conservation of historic Grey Abbey in Co Kildare

Grey Abbey
Kildare Co Council said it is considering conservation works, including the removal of the ivy from Grey Abbey in Kildare Town.
The issue is being discussed by the Council's Historic Monuments Advisory Committee.
The Grey Abbey was built in the 13th century for the Franciscan monks and named after the grey habits worn by the monks during Medieval times.
The Abbey, which was suppressed in 1539, now lies in ruins and is located  at the rear of Kildare Village shopping outlet.
