The former home of famed Irish artist is up for sale, and it is located in a quiet part of Kildare.
Straffan Lodge, a large residence located near the small village of Straffan an within close proximity to The K Club, has been been put on the market, and the current guide price is an estimated €2.75 million.
The large country home that is set on 34 acres of top quality land is currently owned by Marcus and Edel Beresford who have lived in the house since 1989. They reared their four children there and with all of them now grown up, the couple have decided to move on.
Marcus, a solicitor, and Edel, a keen sportswoman, are keen horse trainers who have led horses to second and third place finishes in the 2004 and 2005 Irish Grand Nationals. They are not the most prominent owners of the property however, as famed Irish artist Francis Bacon lived there from 1909 to 1926 before he fell out with his father at the age of 16 and moved out.
The house, which is described as being evolved over two eras and dates back to the 1820s, has five bedrooms on the top two floors of the property, two of which are large bedrooms that look out across the rolling lawns on front of the house.
Oil portraits of notable figures from the Beresford family line the reception rooms at either side of the entrance to the house, with those rooms also featuring striking marble fireplaces.
Off the dining room is a cosy duck egg blue country kitchen added in the 1920s and updated by the Beresfords, with a lovely bay window overlooking the lawn, and French windows lead out to a very nicely contained patio and large enclosed garden.
The kitchen has all the modern accessories needed but also features some traditional values that make it one of the most homely rooms in the house, and it's duck egg blue colour really makes it stand out.
The auctioneer for the sale, Paddy Jordan, is inviting unconditional sealed bids before July 3.
