Thieves reverse through front window of Naas pet store before robbing paltry sum of money

Thieves broke into a petshop outside of Naas in the early hours of Wednesday morning by reversing a car through the front window of the premises before fleeing with a paltry sum of money stolen from a charity box in the store. The incident occurred at 4am this morning when the Petstop store in Toughers Business Park was the subject of an early morning raid carried out by four assailants. The driver of the vehicle reversed through the front window of the shop, smashing the front window and door, causing considerable damage. Two men then entered the store and ruffled around the till area before taking money from the charity box. Toughers Business Park is sealed off by a security barrier at nighttime, and it is believed that the men gained access to the industrial development by turning the headlights of their car off and following a truck in as it passed through. The headquarters of Manguard Plus, the security firm who look after the park, is based right beside Petstop, and they were on the scene within a couple of minutes. Brendan McEvoy, who is the manager of the store, said that he got the phonecall shortly after 4am to notify him of the break-in, and his initial reaction was 'pure shock'. "I've never had to experience anything like this before, and when I got there it was just pure anger," he said. "We're only a small Irish business, and everybody is struggling as it is... it was just a little disheartening to be honest. Why a pet store? "I'm just relieved that nobody was harmed and it did happen at the hour it happened. "All local businesses should be extra careful when they're locking up not to leave any cash or valuables in store to encourage people to break into their premises." Gardaí are currently examining CCTV footage provided by Petstop and Manguard Plus as they investigate the break-in.
