New initiative will see a defibrillator outside every Eurospar store in Kildare

RTÉ Sport presenter Michael Lyster was on hand this week to launch a new initiative in Kildare where Eurospar are aiming to provide a life-saving defibrillator outside every store in the county. The retail chain are aiming to raise funds that will see such devices located outside of each of their shops in Kildare, and they will be available to the community in the case of an emergency. They will be raising the funds through community fundraising activities, contributions from the sales of their own brand products and through in-strore collections. Lyster, who suffered a cardiac arrest in 2015, is keen to see the initiative get up and running, and it will begin with the installation of a defibrillator at the Eurospar supermarket in Barnhall, Leixlip. “I’m delighted to help launch the defibrillator at every Eurospar Supermarket initiative as this equipment can really mean the difference between life and death," he said. “Having a defibrillator in a public space raises the profile of heart disease and ensures that people know where to find one when an emergency occurs. I look forward to the day when each Eurospar has a defibrillator in place.”
