Kildare village features on Winning Streak on Saturday night

A priest who bought his Winning Streak ticket in Derrinturn will appear on the RTE games how on Saturday night. African priest Fr Gabriel (55) is a regular visitor to the north-west Kildare village and bought the scratch card in Daniel's Today's Extra shop in April or May. Winning Streak will return to RTE this weekend after its summer break. A busload of 22 locals from Derrinturn are travelling up to RTE on Saturday where they will appear in the audience to cheer on Fr Gabriel. Winnings Contestants can win up to €500,000 on the Grand Prize Wheel but can also walk away with big cash amounts and cars and holidays. It's not yet known what Fr Gabriel will do with his winnings. Owner of Today's Extra, Eddie Daniels told KildareNow this morning: "Fr Gabriel bought the ticket in our shop and soon after went back to South Africa. "It was Fr Murphy's housekeeper Julie who sent it off to the National Lottery. "Nobody heard anything until last Sunday when the National Lottery contacted me because they couldn't reach Fr Gabriel. "He lives in Africa where he is 500 miles from the nearest airport." Boost Today's Extra shop is expecting a boost in business due to selling the Winning Streak ticket. The shop received a small bonus and Eddie and his wife also be invited as guests to the gameshow. "We have been lucky in the past with scratchcards," added Eddie, who has run the grocer, butchers, deli and cafe since 1998. "We sold two or three €5,000 All Cash tickets. And somebody also won €1,000 in an All Cash Spectacular card."
