Council urged to consider one-way system for Main Street in Celbridge

Calls have been made for the council to consider putting a one way car and bus system in place for Celbridge. Cllr Bernard Caldwell has asked the Celbridge-Leixlip Municipal District to consider placing a one way system from Main Street to Castletown House. The council responded by stating that a comprehensive traffic management assessment would have to be carried out before any such system could even be considered, citing the fact that it could increase traffic in the town centre even further. This would require an examination of the road network in the Celbridge area as it could lead to significant circuitous re-routing of traffic, potentially leading to longer journey times. To fully assess the impact of such a proposal, a study of local roads, traffic flow and vehicle movement/journey times would be required, including an assessment of the impact on the existing bridge.
