Dedicated volunteer and truck driver, Eddie O’Brien, from the Co Kildare side of Enfield, is making the ultimate sacrifice this Saturday - appearing on the National Lottery Winning Streak game show on RTE One on behalf of his wife Bridget! Eddie, from Enfield, said this week he is more than excited and proud to be taking to the Winning Streak stage for his wife, Bridget, whose name was pulled out of the drum last Saturday. As Eddie sat down to watch the crucial Ireland-Denmark World cup qualifying soccer game last Saturday, the last thing he thought he’d be doing seven days later was going on RTE to appear on the popular Winning Streak game show! Nice-guy Eddie has been a truck driver for the past 39 years, transporting animals around for veterinarian organisation, Co-Operative Animal Health Transportation. His real passion in life is volunteering and helping others. He has been volunteering in his local credit union in Enfield, where he his chair of the credit committee, for the past 21 years. Eddie really is a positive guy and lives life by the maxim – Live every day to the fullest – and also believes in helping others in any way you can. He has also volunteered and fundraised for a charity called the Lourdes Kindness Group which raises much needed funds for sick children and people, who wouldn’t have the means, to go to Lourdes, for many years. The 62 year old and his wife Bridget have two children, John and Mary, and four grandchildren – two of whom; Dylan and Shane, will be in the audience cheering Eddie on Saturday. The other two Saoirse and David will be watching from home. With any winnings from the game show Eddie says that Bridget will get the say there but they will do a few home improvements but they will mostly look after their children and grandchildren. The next episode of Winning Streak will be broadcast next Saturday evening (18th November) at the earlier than usual time of 7:30pm on RTÉ One, where presenters Marty Whelan and Sinead Kennedy will guide five players through the iconic show, which gives them the chance to win cash, cars and luxury holidays. One will get the once-in-a-lifetime chance to spin the Grand Prize Wheel with a maximum prize of €500,000. The other four players chosen to participate in next week’s Winning Streak are:
Marian Connell from Kilmaine, Co Mayo
Lorna Hawthorne from Seaghan Road, Co Armagh
Ciara Kelly from Ennis, Co Clare
Carmel Linden from Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan
