A North Kildare man appeared before Naas District Court today after being arrested in connection to an alleged armed attack in a Newbridge betting office yesterday. The 35-year-old man is alleged to have entered Ladbrokes, Allen View Heights, yesterday morning, on April 4. It is understood that he was wielding a knife. Detective Séamus Doyle said that when charged, he said: "Cocaine has ruined my life." In court today, Detective Doyle outlined how the man with an address in Celbridge, was holding a knife to two employers, a man and woman. Detective Doyle said that the man who is addicted to cocaine has a place obtained at Cuan Mhuire treatment centre. The accused will start a six months treatment programme immediately and on completion must sign on daily at Leixlip Garda Station. He has also been ordered to stay away from three men as part of the bail conditions. Judge Desmond Zaidan ordered that the accused appear again before Naas District Court on July 5, next, for DPP directions. He has been ordered to pay €750.
