Kildare North Labour General Election Candidate Emmet Stagg was in contact with the Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform seeking an update on when revised tender documents would be issued for the Construction of the New State Forensics Laboratory at Backweston, Celbridge, and when construction would actually commence.   The Minister advised Mr. Stagg that "due to recent changes in international forensic laboratory standards, it was necessary to add further material to the Main Contract tender documentation." Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) and the OPW design team are currently examining the issues involved which relate primarily to laboratory interior finishes and mechanical and electrical specification requirements.   The Minister further advised Mr. Stagg that once this examination has been completed, the OPW will review all tender documentation and intends to re-issue a complete set of documents to contractors by the end of June 2018. Following tender submissions and their evaluation it is expected that Construction will commence in the first quarter of 2019.   Mr. Stagg stated that enabling works for the Main Contract including electricity and gas connections, the installation of fibre line to the site and works to the main entrance will be completed shortly. In conclusion Kildare North Labour General Election Candidate Emmet Stagg stated that he would "continue to monitor progress with the project" which has an estimated price tag of €60 Million and which will provide the Country with a State of the Art Forensics Facility to the Highest International Standards in the battle against Crime.
