KILCOCK - LIBRARY
By Kim O'Leary   Kildare North Labour General Election Candidate Emmet Stagg has welcomed the improved opening hours for Kilcock Community Library which will come in to force from the week commencing December 4, 2018.     At present, stated Mr. Stagg, Kilcock Community Library, is opened 3 days a week for a total of 14 hours. From December 4 Kilcock Library will be opened 5 days per week with total Opening Hours increasing to 25 hours and 45 minutes. The New Opening Hours are as follows:
  • Monday (closed)
  • Tuesday 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm

  • Thursday 1.30pm-5pm and 5.45pm-8pm
  • Friday 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm
  • Saturday 10am-1pm and 2pm-4pm
Welcoming the improved opening hours Mr. Stagg stated that Public Libraries are valued community assets and making Kilcock Community Library more accessible through longer opening hours is a welcome improvement for the Kilcock Community.   A new Library Strategy launched earlier this year seeks to develop our Public Library System with improvements in the Library's role in literacy support, supporting lifelong learning opportunities and establishing the library as the key place for accessing reliable and authoritative information.   In addition to improved opening hours for Libraries another part of the Library Strategy is to improve ICT capacity and digital services and Kildare County Council have been awarded grant funding of €547,262 for improvements to the Library Service.   The grant will allow for the purchase of new hardware and software including interactive white boards, gaming equipment, robotics kits, coding equipment and a tablet lending system.   In conclusion Kildare North Labour General Election Candidate Emmet Stagg stated that'improving accessibility to our Public Libraries was important and their further development was essential given their critical role within our Communities.'
