Grant Thornton announces new employment opportunities at premises in Kildare

Grant Thornton, Ireland’s fastest growing professional services firm, recently announced plans to hire 400 new people over the next two years.  The positions are for experienced hires and graduates, and will be spread across the new headquarters in Dublin and all the regional offices, including the base in Kildare. Grant Thornton has offices in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Galway, Kildare, Limerick and Longford with more than 1,350 employees today with 49 partners. Since 2012, when the firm had 30 partners and 375 employees, the firm has grown its turnover by more than 130% to €110 million. Of the 400 new hires, half will be experienced candidates from industry and practice looking to further their career with Ireland’s fastest growing professional services firm. Meanwhile, Grant Thornton is targeting high calibre professionals from accounting and non-accounting backgrounds who can bring specialist and sectoral expertise, client service and commercial acumen to a range of positions in financial services advisory, tax, audit and consulting, as well as specialist areas such as cyber and forensics, technology and aviation.  The firm’s Managing Partner of Grant Thornton, Mick McAteer, paid a visit to Newbridge to announce that they plan to employ new graduates and professional accountants at their Kildare office. Speaking to The Kildare Post about the new employment opportunities for people living in and around Kildare, Mr McAteer explained: “A total of 400 jobs will be created within the next two years, and for the first half of that number we’ll be looking to hire graduates with backgrounds in finance and accounting and I.T. from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth and Carlow Institute of Technology.  I am delighted to announce that at least 5 or 6 graduates will be employed at the Kildare office in Newbridge in 2019, and the same amount the following year. We are also looking for qualified accountants in specialised areas such as tax, audit and consulting, as well as those from non-accounting backgrounds.” Mr McAteer said: “Grant Thornton had three offices in 2012 in Dublin, Newbridge and Limerick, and we’ve continued to expand with offices in Galway of about 75 staff, Cork close to 105 and we also merged with RSM Farrell Grant Sparks in Longford. We’ve also an office in Belfast.” Meanwhile, according to Mr McAteer, Grant Thornton decided to set up its office in Newbridge in Co Kildare to hire professionals for their workforce and to attract new clients in the form of local small-medium businesses from the Kildare/Dublin region. He said: “The decision to set up the Kildare office dates back to the Celtic Tiger days with the heavy traffic experienced by employees travelling up to Dublin City. We wanted to assist and attract new employees and to put down roots with clients from the locality who provide services such as construction, food and agricultural and technological to name a few.” Meanwhile, as many companies and firms in Ireland express uncertainty over the impact that Brexit will have on services and employment, Mr McAteer is quietly optimistic that Brexit could benefit the services industry in Ireland. He said: “In my opinion, like in anything there will be winners and losers where Brexit is concerned, but I think that Ireland will probably gain in terms of the financial and services sector especially in the wider Dublin area. With regard to exports and agriculture, the uncertainty is troublesome but when we know the result of any Brexit deal. We’ll be able to put a plan in place for exporting which will, in turn, allow us to overcome any challenges, and make the most of any opportunities the final deal brings.”
