Leixlip residents voice outrage at lack of swimming pool

Outrage is being expressed in Leixlip that a promised swimming pool is not being provided. A petition has now been launched appealing for the public's support. A statement by the community calling on a petition to be signed said: "This petition has been set up because Leixlip was promised a public swimming pool for the last 30 years and it has never gotten the support from Kildare County Council it needed. There was a meeting held last week by the Council and it appears that the Council have been swayed to choosing Maynooth over Leixlip despite former assurances that Leixlip would get a swimming pool." The statement said:"Maynooth currently have access to swimming in the Glenroyal Hotel and Carton House. While acknowledging that these are private options, this is two more pools than is currently available to anyone in Leixlip. Leixlip has no pools, public or private." The statement said: "Leixlip is expanding rapidly with a large community and we deserve a swimming pool for the health of the elderly, disabled and young alike.
The recent decision by our councilors to approve the re-opening of a swimming pool at Maynooth university (where just four to five years ago one had to be closed down) has caused uproar in our community."
