Several local residents were forced to clean up a woodland area in Co Kildare after illegal dumping of household rubbish.

Rahin Woods gets a regular stream of walkers, joggers and cyclists.

However visitors at the weekend found a large area littered by household refuse.

Leaving or throwing litter in a public place is an offence that can be subject to an on-the-spot fine of €150.

A maximum fine of €3,000 can be imposed if you are convicted in the local district court.

Local residents banded together and cleaned up the rubbish and left the area unspoilt again.
