Maynooth Students' Union has said that the death of two students, Winnie Li and Rebecca Owens,  took place over the Christmas period.

The Students' Union said: "Our thoughts are with their families and friends at this tough time. R.I.P - Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

"Students and staff who wish to remember Winnie are welcome to visit the Student Services Centre at any time over the coming days, where a Book of Condolence is available for anyone wishing to sign it."

An online Book is also at https://www.maynoothuniversity.ie/student-services.

All these messages will be passed to Winnie’s family in due course.

The University community held a Moment of Remembrance for Winnie yesterday.

The Union said that was an opportunity for Winnie’s friends and classmates to gather to remember her and to spend time with others who are missing their friend and classmate.

There will be a moment of Remembrance held similarly for Rebecca in early February however details are yet to be confirmed.

The Students' Union said it is available to help any students who may be affected by this news and has made support services available to all students.
