Met Éireann extend weather warning for Kildare as the county is hit by snow again
11:29 Sunday 18th of March 2018

Met Éireann have extended the Status Orange weather warning that is in place in Kildare until 6pm this evening.

For the second time this month the county has been hit by a flurry of snow, leaving many roads quite dangerous due to ice and frosty conditions.

Met Éireann have said that "occasional snow showers will continue this afternoon, heaviest over Eastern and Southern parts of Leinster and in Western parts of Munster with some further accumulations.

"Bitterly cold and windy everywhere with highest temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees in strong and gusty easterly winds. The showers will become more scattered this evening."

Overnight it's set to remain extremely cold with scattered snow showers still occurring over Eastern parts of Leinster and Ulster tonight. Otherwise it will be a cold frosty night with lows of 0 to -3 degrees with widespread frost and icy stretches. Easterly winds moderating.
