A lurcher dog from Kilcock who was believed to have been stolen has been found after a 4 month long search by his determined owners when he was found in Ballinasloe in Co Galway at the weekend.

Alfie was reported missing on June 7 2018 from his home and his owners believe that he may have been stolen, and they launched a frantic search to find the beloved family pet who is a distinctive golden lurcher with green eyes.

When he was last seen Alfie was wearing a collar and microchipped.

Now, in a twist to the search, is understood that a rather thin lurcher dog matching Alfie's description was found in the Ballinasloe area in Galway on Sunday evening by volunteers from Galway SPCA. They confirmed that after checking the dog's microchip details, the dog was indeed Alfie.

Galway SPCA said in a statement on their page: "Just the most amazing news that we can now confirm, that the poor emaciated, mangy lurcher we picked up last night from Ballinasloe is indeed the stolen Alfie. Alfie is in very poor condition but he is safe now with us."

It is also understood that Alfie will soon be reunited with his delighted owners.
