Gardaí have received more than 60 phone calls since a renewed appeal was made for further information into the case of missing Naas man Trevor Deely.

The latest piece of progress in the case arose after CCTV footage from the night of Trevor's disappearance was digitally enhanced to provide a clearer image of what happened.

The 22-year-old was last seen 16 years ago when he stopped off at his office at the Bank of Ireland branch he worked in following a Christmas party, and upon leaving his workplace at 4.14am he appeared to be followed by a man who Gardaí believe he had been speaking to shortly before that.

Trevor was never seen after he left his office to walk down Haddington Road on a wet and windy night, and one line of inquiry that Gardaí have been looking into is whether or not he could have been pushed into the nearby canal.

A €100,000 reward for any relevant information that may lead to a breakthrough in the case was offered last week, and that has had the desired effect according to the Daily Mirror, who report that Gardaí are pleased with the response.

"There's been in excess of 60 calls. There's been steady contact from the public during the past week - calls coming in on a regular basis to Crimestoppers and to Pearse Street Garda station," a source is quoted in the report.

"They're being collated at the moment and we're actioning it out as we're getting it in.

"And we're carrying investigations out in relation to any information we're getting.

"We're very happy with the public's response and we'd ask for anyone that has information to continue and ring in to Crimestoppers or Pearse Street and we'd be delighted to talk to them."
