Motorists advised to take caution on the roads as heavy rain expected to bring spot flooding

A Status Yellow weather warning has been issued by Met Eireann as the Leinster area prepares for an extremely heavy spell of rainfall over the next number of hours.

The weather warning has been issued for Carlow, Kilkenny, Wexford and Wicklow and will remain in place until 6pm as around 25-40mm of rain is expected to fall throughout this afternoon. Heavy rain is also expected for Kildare though it is not expected to be quite as bad as the surrounding Leinster counties.

Met Eireann have said that the rain that is countrywide this morning is expected to become confined to eastern coastal counties this afternoon. Drier weather with lighter winds across Munster and Connacht with bright spells and just a few showers. Highest temperatures of 6-10 degrees.
