Mystery Co Kildare estate could need urgent fire safety upgrade - Minister

A mystery housing development in Co Kildare could be a high-risk fire hazard like Dublin's notorious Longboat Quay apartment complex, according to the Environment Minister.
Last week 900 residents in the complex in the capital were given a month to carry out remedial works totalling €4.75m to bring the building up to fire safety standards - or face eviction.
However Minister Alan Kelly said he believes the fire safety deficiencies will be identified elsewhere including in one Co Kildare estate.
It's not known what development in the county the minister is referring to.
Earlier this year, a fire engulfed and destroyed six houses in the Millfield Hawthorns estate in Newbridge.
Experts are carrying out a comprehensive examination of the incident and a full report will be available by January 30, 2016.
