Naas Court hears teenager had cannabis concealed in his trousers

A teenager  had cannabis concealed in his trousers  when stopped by Gardaí, Naas Court heard.

Evidence was heard how the student at Carlow IT, pleaded guilty to Section 3 possession of cannabis.

Garda evidence outlined how there was a 'smell of cannabis' coming from the car.

Judge Desmond Zaidan addressing the accused said: "What were you doing smoking dope?"

The accused said that he had been celebrating finishing the Leaving Cert and that it had been a pasttime.

He told the court that he nolonger takes drugs.

The Judge asked the teenager where he had got he drugs.

He told the Judge that 'some fellow on the street' gave him cannabis.

Judge Zaidan said: "We have a serious problem in Ireland, with young people taking drugs."

He ordered the accused pay €750 to the Friends of Beaumont Hospital, the Probation Act Section 1(1) was imposed.
