A father of young children appeared before Naas District Court facing charges of stealing three lightbulbs.

The 31-year-old pleaded guilty to being charged with the theft of lightbulbs at SuperValu, Fairgreen, Naas, at 7.55pm.

In court, the Garda outlined how the accused was approached by three security men. The court heard how he went past security with the lightbulbs. Evidence was given that there was no loss of property.

Defence Solicitor, David Powderly, said that the accused has a history of depression for a number of years.

Mr Powderly said: "He had no particular need for the lightbulbs. He regrets what happened."

Evidence was given that the accused has no previous convictions.

Judge Desmond Zaidan imposed the Probation Act Section 1(1).
