A previous report blamed a lack of water and build-up of silt

Concern has been expressed over the growth of weeds at the Naas Lakes.

Labour Party councillor Anne Breen has asked Kildare County Council to provide an update on any action taken to rectify “the weed proliferation overgrowing the lakes in Naas.”

Two years ago KCC said weed growth was being promoted by the build up of silt and a lack of water.

A report on the problems in the amenity area was commissioned by KCC at that time and it recommended additional surveys to establish the source of the siltation in the lakes, as well as improvement measures such as silt traps and programmes for additional maintenance.

A study of environmental dredging techniques was proposed in advance of installing silt traps.

Weed growth is being assisted by the reduced level in the water depth as a result of the silt build up.
