‘It’s impossible for parents to walk with their children there’

Kildare County Council has come out against upgrading a busy junction on the Sallins Road in Naas.

According to KCC it has “no plans to upgrade the junction at this time.”

The Sallins Road is the busiest traffic route in Naas.

A call for an upgrade to the junction linking Sallins Road and Monread Avenue came from Cllr Carmel Kelly.

However, at a Naas Municipal District committee meeting, KCC official Mark McLoughlin said that any upgrade "would require land acquisition in addition to an upgrade of the road to progress.

KCC previously said this would involve significant civil engineering works and would require a widening of the junction into lands owned by third parties.

It also pointed out that there is no “funding resource available to progress a design for such a scheme.”

Cllr Anne Breen countered that it is impossible for parents to walk with their children there adding “we should try to get funding.”

Cllr Fintan Brett said at the time consideration should be given to making an entrance to the Applegreen service station from Monread Avenue instead of having traffic drive on to Sallins Road and then drive on to the forecourt,

He added Applegreen might facilitate this.
