The residents’ sleep ‘is broken’

Residents are complaining about “noise pollution” cased by lorries in a Kildare village.

Kildare County Council has been asked to investigate “environmental issues” arising in Johnstown by Labour Party councillor Anne Breen.

Cllr Breen claims the problem is caused by “articulated lorries entering and leaving the distribution centre outside business hours causing excessive noise in the neighbourhood.”

She said lorries are passing through at 4am and the residents’ sleep is broken.

A previous move to have a road ramp removed by Cllr Breen ran aground at a previous Naas Municipal District meeting after other politicians criticised the move.

Cllr Breen asked for the road ramp adjacent to the Johnstown Cottages at the T junction in the village to be modified. She said some people can’t sleep at night because of the noise.

She said this would “reduce the excessive noise emanating from heavy goods vehicles crossing over the ramp.”
