‘Facilities needed include a doctor’s surgery’

A social housing project earmarked for Sallins must have facilities to support community, recreational and wider public needs, including a doctor' s surgery.

Cllr Bill Clear told a Naas Municipal District committee meeting that the town has seen much residential development but not enough amenities and services have been provided for the residents.

Land adjacent to the parish hall in Sallins will be used for the development of social housing and it is in the process of being transferred to Kildare County Council.

This will be followed by a feasibility study which will embrace a number of interests including the need to “ensure strong pedestrian and vehicular connectivity through the site.”

The possibility of providing some affordable units as part of the project will also be explored.

It is planned to have a public consultation process between January and the end of March next year with construction work starting in late 2027 or early 2028.

According to KCC, these timelines depend on the outcomes of site investigations, feasibility assessments, statutory approvals and approval for relevant government departments.
