Met Éireann has released a Status Yellow rain warning for several counties.
According to the meteorological service, heavy rain can be expected at times throughout today (Thursday July 6) in counties Galway, Mayo, Kerry and Cork, which may lead to localised flooding.
Rain will be accompanied by fresh to strong winds, leading to poor travelling conditions.
The warning will be in place from 10am to 8pm today.
It will be wet and windy in other parts of the country, with rain and drizzle becoming widespread this afternoon.
Rain will be heaviest and most persistet across Atlantic counties with spot flooding possible.
Highest temperatures of 16 to 18 degrees can be expected with southerly winds increasing fresh to strong and gusty.
