Ryanair confirms decision to cut popular service between Ireland and Poland

RYANAIR has confirmed that it has cancelled its twice-weekly service between Shannon Airport and the Polish capital city of Warsaw.

It comes following the breakdown in talks between representatives of the no-frills airline and management at Modlin Airport which serves Warsaw.

The last service between Shannon and Modlin will take off at 5.50am on Monday, November 6.

Up to now, there had been two round trips each week between the County Clare airport and the Polish base - on Mondays and Thursdays.

There are still routes between Shannon and Poland on offer, however, with Ryanair operating services to Krakow and Wroclaw.

A spokesperson for Ryanair said the cut could have been avoided if bosses at Modlin, Warsaw's secondary airport, had concluded talks on a long-term growth deal.

Ryanair chief executive Eddie Wilson said: "We feel the frustration of local passengers at Modlin who will unfairly suffer this enormous loss of access to low-cost flights and destinations because of the inability of Modlin Airport’s management team to conclude a long-term growth deal. We cannot understand how Modlin’s management team have been unwilling to make an agreement with their largest customer which would have doubled passenger traffic."

Services between Modlin and Belfast, Bristol, Cologne, Kaunas, Manchester have also been cut while services to Dublin, London and other cities have been reduced in frequency.
