A lorry driver was arrested by gardaí over the weekend and was found to be almost 12 times over the legal alcohol limit for a professional driver, resulting in a three-year driving disqualification within 24 hours.
Gardaí at Rosslare Europort, Wexford stopped a lorry carrying heavy machinery due to what they described as the illegal manner in which the vehicle was being driven.
A roadside breath test was conducted which the driver failed, testing positive for alcohol.
The driver was arrested and gave a breath alcohol reading of 107mg/100ml, which is just under 12 times over the limit for a professional driver.
The male was charged, held for court overnight and was given a 3 year disqualification at Wexford District Court.
A garda spokesperson reminded people to never drink and drive.
