'I did it for the craic' - Irishman defends drinking 81 pints of Guinness in one weekend

A Kilkenny man has taken 'binge drinking' to a whole new level, drinking 81 pints of Guinness in one weekend, beating his previous record of 78.

Sean Bryan (33) kept his Facebook followers up to date with a New Year's Weekend session like no other, downing the popular Irish pint from 1pm on Friday, December 29 all the way to 9pm on New Year's Eve.

The drinking extravaganza was far from cheap, with a bill of €400 totted up by the time the last sup of Guinness past his lips.

However, despite his pockets feeling a little lighter, Sean claims he didn't face the costly penalty of hangover, but did admit to being tired after drinking just over 186 units of alcohol.

Sean's festive celebrations has created much debate online, with some online users hailing the local man's actions, while others have expressed damning criticisms, labelling his actions as 'dangerous'.

"People in the comments were saying I would be dead before I was 40 and I was very unhealthy looking and I did take this a bit to heart," he said.

"I just did it for a bit of crack. It was enjoyable to do at the time though and I think as a one off it's okay to do," he added.

Sean has called time on his excessive drinking for now, turning down his friends new challenge of drinking 100 Guinness pints and although he still believes it was okay 'as a one off', he hopes he won't be known as a role model due to his drinking exploits.
